Choices Explorer
 Printer-friendly version of this page

Instructions:

  1. Click on the Career Finder link on the Work page in Choices Explorer.

  2. Tell Career Finder about yourself. Answer six questions about the things you're interested in.

Want some helpful information about how to answer the interest questions?
    Your Interests Worksheet

  3. Answer eight questions about the skills you think you have.

Want some tips on answering the skills questions?
    Your Skills Worksheet

  4. A list of career titles will appear. These are career research leads -- the names of careers that have interests and skills like the interests and skills you told Career Finder about. You can click on a name in the list to see graphs comparing your interests and skills to that career. If you want to know a lot more about that career, there's a link below the graphs. It will take you to the right Choices Explorer article.

Career Finder will balance your interests and skills (the Balance Both option). You can also tell Career Finder to look for careers that match your interests without considering your skills. Or, you can ask it to look for careers that match your skills without considering your interests.

  5. Write down the first three career research leads here:

    BALANCE BOTH 1. _________________________

      2. _________________________

      3. _________________________

  6. Now, use the Interest and Skills fine-tuner (near the top of the Career Finder) and change Balance Both to Favor Interests. Career Finder will quickly create a new list of career research leads for you. Write down the first three career titles from this updated list.

    FAVOR INTERESTS 1. _________________________

      2. _________________________

      3. _________________________

  7. Now, use the Interest and Skills fine-tuner (near the top of the Career Finder) and change Favor Interests to Favor Skills. Career Finder will quickly create a new list of career research leads for you. Write down the first three career titles from this updated list.

    FAVOR SKILLS 1. _________________________

      2. _________________________

      3. _________________________

You can use these three lists of careers any time to do more personal career research. For example, you can come back to Choices Explorer later and use the Search tool to find articles about these careers.
